GRADE OF COMICS/MAGAZINES

1.    The approximate grades of comics and magazines sold at the store are as follows:

Year of Publication

Approximate Grade

Pre-1982

FAIR - VG

1982 – 1992

VG- VF

1992 – 1997

VF

1997 – up

VF – NM-

The above grades do not apply to our Coverless Comics. These comics, by definition, are automatically graded as Poor or Incomplete (0.3 - 0.1).

Comics Explorer uses the grading definitions published in the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide (2020 edition and later) and the Overstreet Guide to Grading Comics (2021 edition) in the grading of its books.

The above policy does not apply to comics that have the actual grade in their product name or in the product options available.

2.  Our policy is simple: if a grade is in doubt, we allocate a lower grade to a comic book (e.g., if we are not sure if a comic book is in NM, we allocate the next lower grade which will be VF).

THIRD-PARTY GRADING CERTIFICATIONS DISCLAIMER

If you buy any comic from our shop and submit it for grading certification with any third-party independent grading company (e.g., CGC, CBCS, PGX, Halo Certification), we do not guarantee that you will get the same grade as that assigned by Comics Explorer to the comics sold.

The reasons for this are as follows:

1. Once the comic leaves our store, it is out of our control.
2. Once it is in your possession, we have no idea how you look after the book.
3. Grading companies utilise multiple graders on one book and there can be sharp differences in opinion between those graders. Also, grading companies do not publish their grading standards so a VF by Comics Explorer might be another grade by them.

If you choose to submit a book you bought from us for independent grading, and the final, assigned grade is different from what Comics Explorer sold the book as, Comics Explorer will not be refunding any claims.
